ABSTRACT

Prostitution is still frowned on by some members of the society as it defaces morality in society. However, the rate of entrants into the prostitution business seems to be on the increases. Does this mean that the perception towards the activity has suddenly changed or there are some pull factors that are responsible for such activity? This study was carried out to investigate the causes, prevalence and effect of female prostitution in Nigeria tertiary institutions. This research was conducted in Ijebu-Ode of Ogun State, for effective and comprehensive result, the researcher made use of five departments from the College of health, ilese Ijebu Ode. A total of 100 students formed the sample size for this study. A questionnaire instrument was used to elicit answers from the respondents. The findings of the study reveals that among the causal factors are question to make quick money, desire to get high grades in examination, societal corruption, peer pressure among others.
